Karl Seydelmann , also Carl Seydelmann , (born April 24, 1793 in Glatz , Grafschaft Glatz , † March 17, 1843 in Berlin ) was a German theater actor .

Life

Karl Seydelmann was born as the son of a wealthy grocer and café owner. He attended high school in his hometown and joined the army in 1810 to begin a military career, but broke it off in 1815. Together with Karl von Holtei , whose friend he became, he began his stage career in 1816 at the Grafenort Castle Theater , which was run by the art-loving Count Joseph von Herberstein .

After a job at the Breslau City Theater, he spent a long time studying and traveling: in 1819 he worked at the theater in Graz, in 1820 at the theater in Olomouc and in 1821 at the regional theater in Prague. From 1822 to 1828 he played at the electoral theater in Kassel and in 1829 became a member of the Stuttgart court theater, where he was also head of the dramaturgical school. From here guest tours to Breslau, Weimar, Berlin, Darmstadt and Düsseldorf followed. From 1835 he made regular guest appearances in Berlin, in 1838 he was engaged for the Prussian court theater and appointed court actor. From Berlin he also made numerous guest tours through Germany and Switzerland.

Seydelmann helped realistic acting to break through in Germany. He was anxious to improve his high level of acting talent.

On January 9, 1843 - already seriously ill - he appeared for the last time as a Wellenberger in Iffland's lawyers . His childhood friend Karl von Holtei visited him shortly before his death. Karl Seydelmann died on March 17, 1843 at the age of less than 50 in Berlin and was buried in the local St. Hedwig cemetery on Liesenstrasse . The tomb has not been preserved.

His grandson was the actor Armin Seydelmann .
