Armin Seydelmann (born November 9, 1872 in Warmbrunn , German Empire , † July 28, 1946 in Spittal an der Drau , Austria ) was a German actor in Austrian films.

Life

Career in the theater

Born in Lower Silesia, he came from the later spa town of Bad Warmbrunn and came from a family of artists - his grandfather Karl Seydelmann was a celebrated stage actor in the 19th century - and began his theater career in 1894 at the Hoftheater Coburg-Gotha. In the following thirteen years Seydelmann worked on numerous German provincial theaters. He worked in Lübeck 1896/97, in Sondershausen 1897/98, in Barmen 1898/99, in Erfurt 1899–1901 and in Bremen (at the local theater also as a director ) from 1901 to 1906. From September 1907 until his retirement he belonged to the ensemble of the Vienna Burgtheater .

In these three decades Seydelmann gained a considerable reputation with heroic roles of all kinds. The state appointed the Austrian by choice as a member of the government and awarded him a professorship to teach (since 1912) at the drama school of the Vienna Academy of Music and Performing Arts . Even after leaving the "Burg" on September 24, 1932, on the occasion of his 25 years at this most important Austrian theater, Seydelmann remained associated with this theater as an honorary member and returned to the stage for one or the other role.

Roles in film

Shortly after the end of the First World War, Armin Seydelmann turned to cinema for a few years. Until the mid-1920s he played, as before on the stage, important representatives of the high nobility and bourgeoisie as well as other dignitaries. He was the painter Cornelius Vanderstraaten in Adrian Vanderstraaten , the councilor Bogner in The Devil Schlosser , the Bank Trust president in a Strauss waltz , Lord Bolingbroke in The grinning face , a prince in the Grim Reaper and Count Gradenigo in the dead hand . They were consistently supporting supporting or leading roles in time and social dramas.
