Heinrich Theodor Rötscher

Heinrich Theodor Rötscher (born September 20, 1802 in Mittenwalde , † April 9, 1871 in Berlin ) was a German teacher , dramaturge and aesthetician .

Life

Rötscher was the only son of a preacher . This was transferred to the Friedrichs orphanage in Berlin. That is why Rötscher enjoyed his high school education at the Gray Monastery high school . The actor Friedrich Wilhelm Lemm (1782–1837) aroused his interest in dramaturgy during this time. Then Rötscher went to study philology and philosophy at the Berlin University , where he completed his studies under August Boeckh and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel in particular . Then he temporarily moved to the University of Leipzig to Gottfried Hermann . He was returned to the University in Berlin there in 1825 with the dissertation Disinquistionis de Aristophanei ingenii top pars prior to Dr. phil. PhD . In the same year his habilitation took place there , whereupon he taught at the Berlin University as a private lecturer and associate member of the philological seminar until 1830 .

Rötscher moved to the Royal High School in Bromberg in 1830 . There he got a job as a teacher. He was also given the title of professor , which he held from then on until the end of his life. In Bromberg he began his writing work. In addition, a trip to Paris fell during this time , during which he gained new impressions at the Theater-Francais . In 1845 Samuel Heinrich Spiker gave him the opportunity to become a theater critic for the Spenersche Zeitung in Berlin. He accepted the offer and stayed there until his retirement in 1862.

In 1847, Rötscher was asked by Culture Minister Friedrich Eichhorn to draft a plan for a state theater school in Berlin. His plan was approved by Minister Eichhorn, the artistic director of the Royal Theater Karl Theodor von Küstner and the poet Ludwig Tieck . However, the plan was not implemented.

Rötscher was considered an influential critic for actors, writers, composers and singers.
