(48425) Tischendorf is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen on February 2, 1989 at the Thuringian State Observatory Tautenburg ( IAU code 033).

The asteroid is a member of the Massalia family, a group of asteroids with low orbital inclination named after their largest member (20) Massalia .

The heavenly body was named after the German theologian Konstantin von Tischendorf (1815–1874), who discovered the Codex Sinaiticus in 1844 , the oldest completely preserved manuscript of the New Testament . The asteroid was named on May 1, 2003.
