In 1921 Karl Stein joined the Communist Party of Germany and later the Red Front Fighters League . He lost his job as an electrician when he took part in the road workers' strike. Karl Stein was arrested in June 1933 and received a prison sentence of several months. Together with Albert Hensel and the artist couple Fritz Schulze and Eva Schulze-Knabe , he founded a resistance group in Dresden in 1934 , which was also an illegal organization of the KPD. Together they listened to "hostile" stations from abroad, which was then a criminal offense. The early actions of these resistance groups included the distribution of leaflets as well as the affixing of banners in hard-to-reach places and the smuggling of forbidden literature. But they also supported those who were persecuted and victims of the National Socialists .

In January 1941, Karl Stein was arrested at work. The People's Court rated the meeting of this resistance group in 1942 as a re-establishment of the KPD and thus high treason. On March 11, 1942, he was sentenced to death together with Fritz Schulze, Albert Hensel and Herbert Bochow . The judgment was carried out on June 5, 1942 in Berlin-Plötzensee . His symbolic grave is located in the honor grove of the Heidefriedhof .

Honors

In Dresden, a street in the Gittersee district and a stadium in the Johannstadt district were named after him.
