Karl Sykora

Karl Sykora (born December 2, 1850 in Skotschitz , † June 16, 1924 in Vienna ) was an Austrian construction technician .

Life

Karl Sykora was the son of the administrator of Nový Hrad Castle in Bohemia . He attended the secondary school in Leitmeritz and studied from 1867 to 1872 at the Imperial and Royal Polytechnic Institute in Vienna. From 1870 to 1871 he was a one-year volunteer with the engineering team .

In 1872, Sykora became an employee of the Vienna City Planning Department as a student . He began working for the Vienna World Exhibition and was then involved in the planning of the canal system in the Donaustadt district in Leopoldstadt , which was created by the Viennese Danube regulation. He was assigned to the aqueduct department in 1877. The following year he took part in the occupation campaign in Bosnia as a lieutenant in the reserve . From 1879 Sykora worked in the building construction department of the city building department. There, new buildings and extensions of schools were among his tasks.

From 1884 he worked again in the water supply department. He was involved in the expansion of the 1st Vienna High Spring Pipeline , for which new springs were included. He managed the project planning and construction of a new water pipeline in the city of Neunkirchen . Sykora's most important achievement is the planning and construction of the Second Vienna High Spring Pipeline under his direction. He was responsible for the selection of suitable source areas, the route and financial planning. As the successor to Franz von Berger, he worked from 1908 until his retirement in 1913 as director of the Vienna City Planning Department. At the same time, he was in charge of the catenary for the areas of water supply, building construction, building police and lighting.

Karl Sykora died at the age of 73 and was buried in the Pötzleinsdorfer cemetery .
