Charles V of Maine

Charles V of Maine (* 1436 ; † 1481 in Marseille ) was Count of Maine , Mortain , Gien and Guise from the younger house of Anjou from 1472 . He was the son of Count Charles IV of Maine and his wife Cobella Ruffo .

In 1474 he married his cousin Johanna von Lothringen (* 1458, † 1480), daughter of Count Frederick II of Vaudémont and Jolande von Anjou , a daughter of his uncle René I of Anjou . The marriage remained childless.

When René died in 1480, Charles inherited the Duchy of Anjou (as Charles IV) and the Counties of Provence and Forcalquier , but not the Duchy of Lorraine, which René had only owned because of his marriage to René's female grandson, René II. , Went. However , Charles took up his uncle's claims to the Kingdom of Naples , the Kingdom of Sicily and the Kingdom of Jerusalem .
