Karl-Wilhelm ter Horst

Karl-Wilhelm ter Horst (born March 1, 1950 in Nordhorn ) is a German social scientist , theologian and pastor .

Life

Ter Horst grew up in the county of Bentheim . From 1969 to 1974 he studied Protestant theology , philosophy , sociology , psychology and education at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . At that time he was active on the state board of the DKP in Lower Saxony. He was expelled from the party because of his protest against Wolf Biermann's expatriation in 1977. 1978 followed the doctorate in sociology to the Dr. phil. at the Philosophical Faculty of the Westphalian Wilhelms University, the subject of the dissertation was the origin of contradicting norms in conflict-ridden social systems.

Since 1980, ter Horst was temporarily involved as a research assistant in a project of public alternative education in the social affairs department of the Ostfriesland University of Applied Sciences in Emden . It was about the drafting of non-restrictive concepts for the socialization of children and young people in homes, foster families and - at the time completely new - rural youth housing communities. He was a co-founder of the "Initiative for Intensive Education eV" (IfI) in Emden.

During his teaching activity in psychology at the University of Bremen , ter Horst resumed studying Protestant theology at the University of Münster. After a vicariate in the Reformed community in Bremen-Blumenthal , he became pastor of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Schüttorf in 1995 . During this time he founded the cross-border association "ECO - Association for the Promotion of European Border Cultures eV", which has the task of developing international understanding and love for peace. His commitment to peace policy particularly applies to advising and helping conscientious objectors and soldiers.

Ter Horst included social, educational, sociological and psychological topics in his publications. He used the term conflict psychology for the development of young people in a development model.

In recent years he combined more and more psychological, spiritual and theological topics and was active in the Christian peace movement and wrote a novel.

Ter Horst attracted attention when he baptized Nina Hagen in August 2009 , who has been a member of his parish since then. He retired on July 1, 2015, but continued to live in Schüttorf and work as an author.
