Karl Wannemacher
Karl Wannemacher (born January 1, 1951 in Ensheim , Saarland ) is a German chef .
Career
After training at Deker's Oberes Badhotel in Bad Liebenzell in the Black Forest, Wannemacher moved to the Hotel du Lac-Hirschen in Brunnen in Switzerland in 1970 and to La Grappe d'Or in Lausanne in 1971 . In 1972 he went to The Bell Inn in Aston Clintoin Buckinghamshire in England , in 1975 to the Auberge du Père Bise in Talloires in France. In 1975 he became sous chef at the first two-star restaurant Maitre in Berlin under Henry Levy .
When the Maitre closed in 1982, Wannemacher went into business for himself with the Restaurant Alt Luxemburg . His competitors until the fall of the Berlin Wall were Siegfried Rockendorf ( Alte Waldschänke ) and Franz Raneburger ( Bamberg Rider ). In 1988 the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star, which it retained until 2001. In 2018, Wannemacher had to close because the new home owner had not extended the lease.
