Carl Wedl

Carl Wedl (born October 14, 1815 in Vienna ; † September 21, 1891 there ; also Karl Wedl ) was an Austrian pathologist .

After completing his studies and completing his doctorate in Vienna in 1841, Wedl initially worked in practice. Following a trip to France and England for scientific purposes, he undertook histological examinations in Vienna in 1844 and completed his habilitation in 1849 as a pupil of Carl von Rokitansky . As first associate (from 1853) and later full (from 1872) professor of histology at the University of Vienna , he was the first professor of histology in the German-speaking area.

In 1910, Wedlgasse in Wien- Landstrasse (3rd district) was named after him.
