from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl Wenk (* 1887 ; † 1985 ) was a German local politician and from 1946 to 1950 Lord Mayor of Freital .

Wenk has been a member of the Freital City Council for the SPD since the city was founded in 1921 . Among other things, he held the office of head of culture before he was appointed mayor of Freital in 1946. Karl Wenk succeeded Arno Hennig , who had been deposed due to his negative attitude towards the compulsory unification of the KPD and SPD to form the SED . He was the first of ten SED mayors in Freital until 1990 and at the same time the last mayor of the city. In 1950, due to his social democratic past, Wenk was replaced by Kurt Studeny , who only bore the official title of “mayor”.
