Baron Karl Werner von und zu Gilsa (born February 3, 1854 in Magdeburg , † May 27, 1913 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and most recently the commander of the 4th Infantry Brigade.

His parents were Freiherr Friedrich Wilhelm Werner von und zu Gilsa (* August 3, 1822 - † July 9, 1866) and his wife Wanda Rosalie Valeska, born von Fischer-Treuenfeld (* May 19, 1827 - June 18, 1888) , a daughter of Lieutenant General Christian von Fischer . His father was a Prussian major and battalion commander in the 26th Infantry Regiment . He died in Czerekwitz from the wounds he received on July 3, 1866 near Königgrätz .

Life

He went to Potsdam as a cadet on May 1, 1865 and became a cadet in Berlin on May 1, 1870 . After graduating, he came to the Guard Fusilier Regiment on April 28, 1872 with the character of Portepeefähnrich . On December 16, 1872, he received his patent as a portepeef ensign and on February 12, 1872 as a second lieutenant. From October 1, 1877 to September 30, 1880, he was assigned to the NCO school in Biebrich . He was then used from April 1, 1881 to September 30, 1884 as a battalion adjutant and investigative officer. On February 13, 1883 he was then Premier Lieutenant without a patent, which he received on August 29, 1883. On January 27, 1889, he was appointed captain without a patent and company commander in the Guard Fusilier Regiment, and on March 22, 1889, he received his patent as a captain. Since July 26, 1897, he was a member of the Order of St. John . In the same year he was aggregated as a major on August 28, 1898 and transferred to the 73rd Infantry Regiment on December 17, 1898, where he was used as commander of the 1st Battalion. There he rose to lieutenant colonel on March 10, 1904 and joined the regiment's staff on April 24, 1904. From there he came on June 14, 1906 as a colonel and commander in the 51st Infantry Regiment. On January 16, 1910, he was awarded the Order of the Crown, 2nd class . On April 20, 1910, he was commissioned to lead the 4th Infantry Brigade, and on May 18, 1910, he was confirmed as brigade commander and promoted to major general. On January 21, 1912, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves , and was then put up for disposal on February 20, 1912 with a pension .

He died on May 27, 1913 in Berlin and was buried in the Invalidenfriedhof .

Gilsa married on January 6, 1885 in Alt Wallmoden Leonie Agathe Kunigunde Charlotte Amalie von Wallmoden (born February 19, 1862 - † October 22, 1937). The couple had several children:
