Karl Winterfeld
Karl Anton Winterfeld (born December 17, 1891 in Cologne , † November 8, 1971 in Bonn ) was a German pharmacist and university professor.
Life
Karl Winterfeld studied pharmacy at the University of Breslau , where he became a member of the Corps Frisia. During the First World War he was seriously wounded as a volunteer storming Liège. During the war he continued his studies in Breslau and passed the state examination there in 1917. In 1921 he was at the University of Marburg in Johannes Gadamer , which he had followed in 1919 to Marburg, to Dr. phil. PhD. In 1922 he passed the main food chemist examination. In 1927 he went as head of the pharmaceutical department at the Chemical Institute of the University of Freiburg and habilitated there in the mathematics and science faculty. In 1929 he was appointed full professor there and in 1938 full professor for pharmaceutical chemistry.
After the handover of power to the National Socialists , he joined the NSDAP in May 1933 . He worked for the SD . During the Second World War he also devoted himself to air force research.
After the end of the war he was released from the university office in 1945. In 1949 he followed a call to the University of Bonn as director of the Pharmaceutical Institute. He had been a member of the Federal Health Council since 1953 and head of the Pharmaceutical Committee for the preparation of DAB 7 and the addendum to DAB 6.
His scientific work focused on the elucidation of the structure of the alkaloids of the broom and the lupins as well as the active ingredients of the white berry mistletoe . He succeeded in synthesizing quinolizidine (basic building block of the alkaloids of lupins) and derivatives thereof.
