Karl von Harrach
Karl Leonhard von Harrach , from 1627 Imperial Count of Harrach zu Rohrau, Baron Prugg and Pürrhenstein, (* 1570 in Rohrau ; † May 25, 1628 in Prague ) was an advisor to Emperor Ferdinand II and father-in-law of his Generalissimo Wallenstein .
Life
Karl von Harrach came from the noble family Harrach , was a son of Leonhard Freiherr von Harrach and Countess Maria Jacobe von Hohenzollern and married Maria Elisabeth von Schrattenbach , daughter of Maximilian von Schrattenbach (* August 1, 1537, † 1618), since 15 November 1587 Mr. zu Heggenberg and Osterwitz and since January 24th 1598 Freiherr, was Archducal Privy Councilor and Chamberlain, Captain and Vice-Cathedral of Cilli and from 1598 Oberst-Erbland-Vorneider in Styria and his wife Anna Grasswein, a daughter of the knight Wilhelm Grasswein on Weyer and Orth and Helene von Herberstein . After completing his studies, he made several trips through Europe and in 1594 became Lower Austrian government councilor and head stable master. He served a year in the Netherlands, then returned to Austria, took part in campaigns in Hungary and advised on the uprising of the Upper Austrian saltworks, the dispute between Emperor Rudolph II and his brother Matthias and the war against Venice . He spoke out in favor of Ferdinand II's election as emperor and, after the victory in the Battle of White Mountain, received expropriated goods in Bohemia and became Imperial Minister of State and Conference.
Alongside Hans Ulrich von Eggenberg , he was one of the emperor's most influential advisers in the 1620s, attended the Reichstag in Regensburg in 1622 and was an advocate for Field Marshal Albrecht Wenzel Eusebius von Waldstein , who was married to Harrach's daughter Isabella. Harrach's daughter Katharina married Wallenstein's cousin Maximilian von Waldstein, daughter Maximiliana was married to Adam Erdmann Graf Trčka . Of his five sons, Ernst Adalbert von Harrach became archbishop of Prague and later cardinal.
Karl von Harrach died in Prague on May 25, 1628. Despite a contract of inheritance, his family inherited only a small part of the Wallenstein property after Wallenstein's death.
