Live and act

Epitaph of Baron Carl von Herberstorff at the parish church in Tišina, Slovenia.

Karl (also Carl) came from the old Styrian noble family Herberstorff . He was a son of Baron Franz von Herberstorff and his second wife Elisabeth von Herberstein . His goods and possessions were mainly in the area of the city of Radkersburg and in the south-eastern part of Styria .

Karl was married to Anna Susanne von Liechtenstein , a daughter of Otto von Liechtenstein-Murau and his wife Benigna von Liechtenstein-Nikolsburg. This marriage resulted in two daughters who later married into well-known Styrian noble families. Benigna, married the Baron Georg Andreas von Glojach and the younger Maria Salomea married Otto Heinrich, Baron von Herberstein.

In 1580 Karl and his wife rounded off their property. They acquired Wolf Christian von Enzersdorf's extensive rule with the associated Freihof located in the city of Radkersburg. This aristocratic and administrative seat bordered on the west side of the city fortifications and touched the Herrengasse running from north to south and the city's main square in the east. In the following three years, the couple had the fortress builder Giovanni Battista della Porta de Riva build the magnificent Herberstorff Palace , which still exists today, in place of the previous Gothic building.

After the death of his wife in 1582, Karl married Anna Maria von Eggenberg , a daughter of Seyfried von Eggenberg and his wife Anna Benigna Galler von Schwanberg.

In 1582, Karl von Herberstorff donated a Protestant church with a schoolhouse and a messner's house at the Prentlhof in front of the city wall of Radkersburg. In 1600 this foundation was demolished by demolition during the Counter Reformation. See also Evangelical Christ Church Bad Radkersburg .

Karl von Herberstorff died on October 5, 1606. He was buried in the then Protestant church of the Petanzen rule in Tišina . The Renaissance tomb built for him on the church facade still reminds of him today. The inscription on the epitaph reads:
