Herberstorff (also Herperstorff, Herberstarff, Herberstorf, Herbersdorf written) is the name of an old noble family from Styria , the family as documented by the middle of the 12th century and traceable end of the 17th century in the main line is off.

history

As the progenitor of the knightly family applies Heinricus de Herwigesdorf in a dedication certificate of in 1147, the monastery Admont first mentioned proven. The Herberstorffers were apparently followers of the Wildonians and developed from the knightly crew of this powerful ministerial family.

The headquarters of the Herberstorffer family was a fortified noble farm, possibly also a small castle . It was one of those fortifications that had to protect the Grazer Feld and the trade route on the Mur and was probably located on the hill in the local area of Allerheiligen near Wildon , where Herbersdorf Castle is today. The Herbersdorfer held the rule until 1609, when this passed to the von Glojach (noble family) with the death of the last Herbersdorfers .

coat of arms

The family coat of arms consists of a red shield with a four-spoke silver mill wheel with eight blades.

According to Christian Friedrich August von Meding, the blazon of the Herberstorff coat of arms at the end of the 18th century is as follows:

“In the red field a silver comb-wheel with four spokes and eight points or combs. On the crowned helmet six ostrich feathers, the first and sixth silver; second and fifth black; third and fourth red. These six springs are covered with a silver wheel, in which the cross or the four spokes are missing [...] The ring of the wheel has eight oblong squares, [...] helmet covers on the flat side that it turns forwards when it is lying down silver and red, Steyermärkisch.
