Karl von Hirsch

Karl Freiherr von Hirsch , (born July 18, 1871 in Munich , † June 3, 1944 in Theresienstadt ) was a German chemist and brewery director in Planegg . Hirsch was a victim of the Holocaust . Karl Freiherr von Hirsch belonged to the Planegger branch of the Bavarian noble family of Jewish faith von Hirsch .

Life

After completing his Abitur (1890), Hirsch studied at the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich at the University of Munich and Berlin and graduated in 1898 with a doctorate in chemistry . He managed the brewery in Planegg and was Vice President of the Bavarian Automobile Club. Hirsch took part in the First World War with the rank of lieutenant and captain and was awarded the Iron Cross II. Class and the Bavarian Order of Merit with Swords.

Hirsch was initially married to Margarete von Schwind and then to Ellen Remelmayer. During his second marriage he adopted Elfriede von Griesheim with his wife .

Hirsch was deported with his brother Rudolf von Hirsch to the Theresienstadt ghetto , where he arrived on June 4, 1942. There he was considered a so-called "celebrity". He died in Theresienstadt in 1944.
