Karlheinz Schmidthüs

Karlheinz Schmidthüs (born February 10, 1905 in Dortmund , † February 21, 1972 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German publicist , editor-in-chief and publisher .

Life

Karlheinz Schmidthüs studied law and theology as well as philology. He was a member of the Quickborn working group and a friend of Romano Guardini . In 1927 he took over the management of the magazine “ Die Schildgenossen ” of the Catholic youth movement Quickborn, which was initiated by Guardini . In 1940 the bimonthly magazine was discontinued by the National Socialists. From 1927 to 1934 he was a teacher at an English school.

In 1946 Schmidthüs was the founder, first editor-in-chief (until 1960) and publisher (until 1972) of Herder Korrespondenz , an independent monthly magazine published by Herder Verlag in Freiburg . In 1947 he was co-editor of Word and Truth , an Austrian monthly magazine for religion and culture .

He was a member of the executive committee of the Central Committee of German Catholics .

In 1952 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Nicola Cardinal Canali and invested in Cologne Cathedral on December 8, 1952 by Lorenz Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . He was its grand officer.
