Karsten Hoydal
Karsten Hoydal (born March 28, 1912 in Hoydalar , Tórshavn , Faroe Islands , † April 4, 1990 in Hoyvík ) was a Faroese writer and politician ( Tjóðveldisflokkurin ).
Life
Karsten Hoydal was the son of Dánjal Hoydal, born Joensen from Sandur and Ata, born Magnussen from Kvívík . He was married to Marie Louise, geb. Falk-Rønne. Together they had the son Egil, the daughter Annika and the twins Gunnar and Kjartan. Well-known grandchildren are Høgni (son of Kjartan) and Dánial (son of Gunnar).
Hoydal was an agronomist and fisherman in Klaksvík . 1954–1957 he worked for the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Manta , Ecuador . He was a friend of Pablo Neruda and his translator into the Faroese language . Hoydal was an honorary member of the Brazilian writers' association Uniao Brasileiro de Escritores .
Hoydal made his debut in 1946 and then wrote three collections of poetry. He also wrote the prose volume Leikapettið (The Pottery Shard ) in 1971, from which the short story Vaktarmaðurin (The Watchman) appeared in German in 2006. In 1961 and 1988 he received the Faroe Islands Literature Prize . He was also the editor of the literary magazine Varðin .
As a politician, Hoydal was one of the founders of Tjóðveldisflokkurin, the republican party that seeks to separate the Faroe Islands from Denmark. As a minister he belonged to the state government of the Faroe Islands from 1963 to 1967 and as a member of the Løgting from 1966 to 1970 .
