Karsten Knolle

Karsten Knolle (born January 17, 1939 in Neinstedt ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and journalist . From 1990 to 1998 he was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt and from 1999 to 2004 a member of the 5th  European Parliament .

Education and life

Karsten Knolle attended elementary school in Neinstedt / Quedlinburg and the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Gymnasium in Hilden near Düsseldorf. After graduating from high school, he studied at the Academy for World Trade in Frankfurt am Main . Karsten Knolle did an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk and became a foreign trade clerk with a degree. In 1955 he said he had to leave the GDR for political reasons . In the Federal Republic he did his military service as a paratrooper and after a series of military exercises is Lieutenant Colonel d. R. and holder of the Federal Armed Forces badge in gold. From 1965 to 1966 there was an information visit to the USA, Canada and Mexico. From 1969 to 1971 he trained as a journalist at dpa -Hannover with a degree in journalism. From 1971 to 1990 he worked as a journalist in Bonn. Today he lives in Berlin.

Karsten Knolle, who is of the Protestant denomination, is married and has two children.

politics

Karsten Knolle has been a member of the CDU (FRG) since 1968. In May 1990 he also joined the CDU (GDR). In the party he was active in various board positions. From 1996 to 2000 he was chairman of the state committee for federal and European affairs in the CDU regional association of Saxony-Anhalt, from 1998 to 2000 chairman of the CDU district association Quedlinburg and has been on the CDU regional executive committee for Saxony-Anhalt since 1998. In 1998 he worked on the CDU's federal committee for development policy. In addition, a focus of work is medium-sized business policy. From 1991 to 2000 he was district chairman of the medium-sized and business association of the CDU / CSU (MIT) in Quedlinburg and had been a member of the state board of MIT for a long time since 1991.

From 1994 to 1999 he was a member of the district council in the district of Quedlinburg and from 1990 to 1998 a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt. Karsten Knolle was directly elected to the state parliament in the first state election in Saxony-Anhalt in 1990 in the state constituency of Quedlinburg I (WK 46). Until December 1991 he was a member of the CDU parliamentary group. In December 1991 he left the CDU parliamentary group and joined Joachim Auer's “free parliamentary group” . A few days later he left the free parliamentary group and was non-attached from December 1991 to February 1992. From February 1992 he was a formal guest of the CDU parliamentary group.

From 1999 to 2004 he was a MEP.

Honors

He is the bearer of the Bundeswehr Cross of Honor in gold.
