Kartal [ kɒrtɒl ] is a Hungarian large village in the county Aszód in Pest County .
Geographical location
Kartal is four kilometers northeast of the city of Aszód . The neighboring municipality of Verseg is six north of Kartal.
history
The name is derived from the Turkish word Cortul , which means "eagle". In the 10th century the Kurszán-Kartal dynasty settled in this area. The Kündü Kurszán, the ancestor of this family, was involved in the conquest with Árpád . His name has been preserved in this place name to this day. The first documentary mention comes from the year 1263, in which the place is mentioned as Kurthol .
István Petrovics, the father of Sándor Petőfi, was born in Kartal on August 15, 1791 .
