Karthan is an inhabited part of the municipality of Bad Wilsnack from the Bad Wilsnack / Weisen district in the Prignitz district in Brandenburg .

geography

The place is four kilometers north-northwest of Bad Wilsnack. The neighboring towns are Uenze in the north, Ponitz and Groß Werzin in the northeast, Grube in the east, Sigrön and Haaren in the southeast, Bad Wilsnack in the south, Groß Lüben in the southwest and Jackel in the west.

history

The name Karthan first appeared in 1239 in the form of the personal name "Hinrichus de Cartane". The place was first mentioned in a document in 1451, at that time under the name "Carthane". The place was named after the Karthane flowing through it . The name of the river comes from the Slavic language and probably means "short".

Karthan has always been part of the city of Bad Wilsnack . On July 25, 1952, it was assigned to the then newly formed district of Perleberg in the district of Schwerin , previously the community part belonged to the district of Westprignitz . After the fall of the Wall, Karthan was assigned to the Prignitz district in the course of the Brandenburg district reform in December 1993 . Karthan is in the Bad Wilsnack / Weisen office .
