Klein Lüben is a district of the town of Bad Wilsnack in the Prignitz district in northwest Brandenburg . About 170 people live in the village. The Scharleuk residential area belongs to Klein Lüben.

Klein Lüben is a round village with brick houses in Westprignitz . The history of Klein Lüben can be traced back over several hundred years. After a major fire in 1872, it was rebuilt in its current form with brick houses on the old square. Before that, all the houses were half-timbered .

geography

Klein Lüben lies on a spur of the valley sand dune, which extends into the Elbe - Karthane lowlands. The Karthane flows around Klein Lüben in a larger arc. The area around Klein Lüben is part of the Elbe-Brandenburg River Landscape Biosphere Reserve .

history

The first documentary mention comes from 1415 as "Lutke Luben". The meaning of the place name comes from Slavic and stands for "dear", "worth". At that time, Klein Lüben belonged to the manor house of the von Möllendorf zu Lutke Luben family. From around 1440 to 1472 the von Königsmark zu Lutke Luben ruled, who then handed it over to the Bishop of Havelberg , who lent it on. From 1490 it belonged to the Plattenburg rule and then came to the Bad Wilsnack estate.

575 years ago there was a castle in the round village. In 1686 the owner was Mathias Friderich von Saldern. In 1550 there were eight hüfner and eight kossät . The Thirty Years War brought Klein Lüben, like many other places in the Prignitz, great devastation, which is recorded in the church register.

A remarkable date is also mentioned in an old church book: “On June 23, 1758, many haricot beans, millet and tuffel are frozen.” The entry is remarkable because potato cultivation was not suspected in the Prignitz at that time.

In the past, the place was often affected by floods from the Elbe and Karthane, but houses and stables are located on terps , so that the flood rarely reached them. A quote from a church book points to the many floods that plagued Klein Lüben again and again until the Garsedow pumping station was commissioned : “In the year 1837 from April 6th to 8th, so much snow fell in severe frost that it was 2 to 3 feet high lay (1 foot = 31.38 cm), whereupon a large amount of water came out of May, so that all meadows and pastures were flooded and the cattle could only feed themselves very sparsely ”.

In 1902 the road to Gnevsdorf was built. The church was built in 1904. Inside the church there is a remarkable altar and, as a special feature, a floating baptismal angel.
