history

Mountain Hotel Kasern

The village of Kasern goes back to today's Berghotel Kasern , formerly the Ahrntaler Tauernhaus , which already served as accommodation for travelers who crossed the Birnlücke (2665 m) and Krimmler Tauern (2634 m) crossings. The place name adopted by the rest house is derived from the Old High German chasarum , which means alpine hut.

The village was first mentioned in 1529 as an inn and hospice. The Brunnwald has belonged to Kasern since 1609, and in return, the owner of the place undertook to lend equipment to poorly equipped travelers.

church

The pilgrimage church of the Holy Spirit is located north of the village. The oldest part of the church was built around 1150, the current church building was consecrated in 1455 by the Brixen bishop Nikolaus von Kues .
