Kaspar Kantz (* around 1483 in Nördlingen ; † December 6, 1544 there ) was a Lutheran theologian and reformer .

Life

The Kantz, who comes from a respected family of craftsmen, entered the Nördlingen Monastery of the Carmelite Order in his hometown at a young age . In 1501 he was found as a student in Leipzig , where he obtained the academic degrees up to Sententiarius in the next few years : 1502 Baccalaureus , 1505 Magister , 1511 Baccalaureus Biblicus, 1515 Sententiarius.

In his native monastery for Prior collected, he fell but soon the Order Provincial in differences and his offices was declared forfeited. Apparently his Reformation attitude was the reason for this tension. In this situation the city council stood up for the city child. As early as 1522 he came out with a new order of worship , which he sent forward reflections on “ the summa of Christian justice and the perfection of faith ”.

His book Von der ev. Messß , published in print, is the first attempt to design the order of worship from an evangelical basis . Since these designs were practiced in the monastery church , the provincial complained again, and since Kantz married at the same time, he was expelled from the city by the council. Now he went to Wittenberg , while Theobald Billicanus stayed in Nördlingen as a Protestant preacher .

He soon found himself back in his hometown and during this time he wrote his little sick book " How to warn, comfort and command God the sick and dying ", which was subject to a number of editions . He also had sermons from those years appear in print. He was not mentioned again as a preacher until 1535, when he successfully took over the management of the entire church system in Nördlingen instead of Billicanus.

So he now worked out the Nördlinger church ordinance, which was printed in 1538. He also wrote contemplations of the Passion . He made a name for himself through both his liturgical and canonical work. With real, deep piety , he also had the energy and strength to put his thoughts into action. Nikolaus Medler became his successor.
