Kaspar Stangassinger
Kaspar Stangassinger (also Stanggassinger ; born January 12, 1871 in Berchtesgaden , † September 26, 1899 in Gars am Inn ) was a Redemptorist priest and educator . In 1988 he was beatified .
Life
Kaspar Stangassinger was the second of sixteen children from a farming family from the Unterkälberstein in Berchtesgaden. His father was also a respected local politician and quarry owner .
When he was 10 years old, he started attending grammar school and boys' seminar in Freising , because he wanted to become a priest as a child. 1890 Berchtesgaden began in Freisinger Seminary the theological studies . Stangassinger quickly felt called to religious life. A visit to the Redemptorists made me want to become a missionary . He broke off his studies and in 1892, against his father's will, entered the Redemptorist Congregation in Gars am Inn as a novice , which was then banned in Germany. After his novice year, he completed his theology studies on the Dürrnberg near Hallein. In 1895 Stangassinger was ordained a priest in Regensburg . Contrary to his actual desire to become a missionary himself, he was used in their training. He was vice director of a small seminar on the Dürrnberg. When the Redemptorists, after their re-admission in Germany, founded a new seminary in Gars in 1899, Father Stangassinger became its director. In the same year he died of a ruptured appendix .
In 1935, the beatification process was initiated and his remains were transferred to the side chapel of the Gars church. On April 24, 1988, Pope John Paul II beatified him. His feast day is September 26th.
Act
The "saint of the common people" was considered an excellent pedagogue. Both as a teacher and as a pastor, he preferred personal relationships to the authoritarian style customary at the time.
