Graf Kaspar von Eberstein , even Kaspar von Everstein (* 6. January 1604 ; † 11 jul. / 21st October  1644 greg. In Oldersum ) was a German lieutenant general of Hesse.

family

Kaspar Graf von Everstein was the son of Count Georg Kasper von Everstein (1565–1629) and Kunigunde von Schlick († 1634). He remained unmarried and was wealthy on Naugard and Massow in Pomerania . He was related by marriage to Georg Wolmar von Fahrensbach , who was also an actor in the Thirty Years' War , through his sister Agnes (* 1600; † 1655) and his brother Ludwig Christoph (1593–1663) .

Career

To 1631 Kaspar Graf von Everstein stood in Swedish military service, but then switched to the service of the Landgrave William V of Hesse-Cassel and led the following year to the Swedish king , a Hessian auxiliary corps of the Battle of Lutzen to, so did the Swedish party in the Thirty Years' War loyal to.

Landgravine Amalie replaced Melander in 1640 with Kaspar Graf von Everstein, who thus received the supreme command of the Hessian troops as lieutenant general.

After this was then successful against the imperial at Rietberg in 1641 , he began the siege of Wolfenbüttel but withdrew from there in order to achieve his greatest victory in the battle of the Kempen Heide on January 17, 1642. Large parts of the Archbishopric of Cologne fell to the Hessians. After further military successes, he died on the approach to Aurich . He was buried in Wesel .
