Kat Edmonson (born August 3, 1983 in Houston , Texas ; actually Katherine Edmonson ) is an American singer and songwriter .

Life

Kat Edmonson was raised as an only child by her single mother in Houston, Texas. Her mother introduced her to records, films and musicals with the Great American Songbook , the classics of American popular music of the 1930s to 1960s. This is how she acquired her jazz repertoire. Their music combines elements of different genres such as jazz, folk, acoustic rock, bossa nova, country and pop. She describes her style of music as "Vintage Pop". Kat Edmonson wrote her first song at the age of nine.

In 2002 she made it to the last 48 participants when she participated in the second season of American Idol . She then moved to Austin , Texas and decided to become a professional musician. After years as a singer in the local club scene, she released her self-financed debut album Take to the Sky in 2009 , which reached the Top 20 on the Billboard Jazz Charts. A duet on the classic " Baby, It's Cold Outside " with Lyle Lovett resulted in a joint appearance on Jay Leno's Tonight Show and a tour in support of Lovett. In 2010 she performed at the Taichung Jazz Festival in Taiwan .

She was able to finance her second album Way Down Low , released in 2012, with a Kickstarter campaign. Way Down Low reached number 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart and helped it be televised on Austin City Limits Live. In spring 2013, the first USA tour followed with 11 concerts as headliners . In the summer of 2013 Kat Edmonson was seen at several jazz festivals in Europe, including the Montreux Jazz Festival . As a support act for Jamie Cullum , she toured the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, Spain and France in autumn 2013.

Her third album The Big Picture was released on September 30, 2014. Like Way Down Low , it reached number 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. In 2016 she starred as a nightclub singer in the comedy film Café Society by Woody Allen .
