Baby, it's cold outside
Baby, It's Cold Outside ( Honey, it's cold outside ) is a pop song. Text and music are from Frank Loesser . Loesser wrote the duet in 1944 and first performed it with his wife, Lynn Garland . In the song, one person is about to leave the other to go home and is persuaded by the other to stay. A wide variety of arguments put forward are being tried to refute little by little - sometimes quite flimsy.
There are numerous recordings and arrangements of the song.
In 1949 the song was performed in the film Neptune's Daughter by Ricardo Montalbán and Esther Williams . For this version, Loesser received the Oscar for best song at the 1950 Academy Awards .
A German-language version of the text under the title Baby, it's raining, was written by Ralph Maria Siegel . It was developed by Rita Paul and Peter Cornehlsen (1949), Rita Paul and Bully Buhlan (1950), Renée Franke and Heinz Erhardt (1950), Ruth Zillger and Ilja Glusgal (1950), Evelyn Künneke and Erwin Halletz (1951), Nana Gualdi and Fred Weyrich (1965), Greetje Kauffeld and Bully Buhlan (1973), Marika Lichter and Gerhard Bronner (1978) and Gunther Emmerlich and Rosay Wortham (1990). Another German version under the title Mach's gut, ich muss geht'n from the pen of Manfred Krug was recorded by Manfred Krug together with Beate Barwandt (1974), Fanny Krug (2001) and with Uschi Brüning (2014). The discographer Tom Lord lists a total of 85 (as of 2017) cover versions in the field of jazz , including a. by Johnny Mercer , Ella Fitzgerald , Cab Calloway , Pearl Bailey , Svend Asmussen , Louis Armstrong , Sammy Davis, Jr. , Neal Hefti , Ray Charles , Ted Heath , Jimmy Smith , Shirley Scott / Kenny Burrell , Dianne Reeves / Lou Rawls and Ben Webster .
