Katarina Bradić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Катарина Брадић ; * in Prokuplje , Serbia ) is a Serbian opera singer ( mezzo-soprano , alto).

life and career

Katarina Bradić studied at the Novi Sad Music Academy and graduated in music education and singing.

After her operatic debut at the Serbian National Theater in 2002 as Mamma Lucia in Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana , Bradić played roles such as Niklausse in Offenbach's Les contes d'Hoffmann , Maddalena in Verdi's Rigoletto and Flora in La traviata . In 2008 she sang the title role in Francesco Pistocchi's opera Il Narciso in a concert performance in Cologne under the direction of Kai Wessel . In autumn 2008 she made a guest appearance in Japan as Maddelena in Rigoletto. She played the same role in the summer of 2009 at the St. Margarethen Festival in Austria. She first attracted international attention in 2009 as a member of the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp and Ghent. Her most important tasks there were Medea in Cavallis Giasone in a premiere, as well as Olga in a premiere by Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin , as well as Suzuki in Puccini's Madama Butterfly and Margret in Alban Berg's Wozzeck .

During her engagements with the Vlaamse Opera and the Deutsche Oper Berlin , Bradić made her role debut in 2010 as Georges Bizet's Carmen at the Operklosterneuburg in Austria. She also gave the title role in Il Narciso under the direction of Kai Wessel in Cologne in 2011. Also in 2011 she made her debut at the Teatro Real Madrid in a new production by Elektra (conductor: Semyon Bychkov ). This production also took her to the Bergen Festival in Norway in 2012 . In 2012 she made her house debut at the Erfurt Opera as Carmen and at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf as Amastre in Xerxes. Further appearances were the world premiere of the staged Gustav Mahler program Mahlermania at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, as well as guest performances in Tallinn and Madrid (production: Christoph Marthaler , conductor: Sylvain Cambreling ).

In 2013 Bradić returned to the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where she interpreted Emilia in Verdi's Otello and Lola in Cavalleria rusticana . Mahlermania was then given in Rouen, Wolfgang Rihm's The Conquest of Mexico in Madrid. In 2014 she got the title role in Benjamin Britten's The Rape of Lucretia at the Deutsche Oper Berlin (2014), Amastre in Xerxes at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf and Bradamante in Handel's Alcina at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence . Bradić has also sung in many other renowned theaters such as the Vienna State Opera , the Estonian National Opera , Den Norske Opera & Ballet or the Graz Opera .

Bradić is also a very active oratorio and concert singer and has made a guest appearance as an alto soloist on a tour with Mozart's Requiem , which took place in several cities across Russia, in Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in Tbilisi , Georgia , in Mozart's Requiem at the Berlin Philharmonic and most recently in Bach's Christmas Oratorio and Mahler's Kindertotenlieder in Lisbon.
