Kate O'Mara (born August 10, 1939 in Leicester , Leicestershire , † March 30, 2014 in Sussex ) was a British actress and author.

life and career

O'Mara was the daughter of actress Hazel Bainbridge and Royal Air Force flight instructor John Carroll. She began an early career as a speech therapist at Sussex Girls School before making her acting debut in theater in 1963. Although she had already acted in numerous films and television series, her breakthrough in the United States only came in 1986 with her role as "Caress Morell" in the Denver clan . Most recently, O'Mara appeared in a guest role on the Benidorm series. In total, she worked on around 60 film and television productions.

O'Mara was married twice. Her son Dickon Young (1964–2012) was u. a. Stage manager at the Royal Shakespeare Company . Her younger sister Belinda Carroll (* 1945) is also an actress.

She published four books: two novels and two autobiographies.

She died on March 30, 2014 at the age of 74.
