Kathrin Fuhrer (born March 21, 1988 ) is a former Swiss ski racer . Her strongest disciplines were giant slalom and super-G . She was once among the fastest 30 in the World Cup and reached a podium in the European Cup .

Career

Kathrin Fuhrer contested her first FIS races in the 2003/2004 season . After winning the Swiss Cup in the junior 1 age group this winter, she was accepted into the Swiss-Ski squad in 2004 . She had to end the next season in December due to an injury. From winter 2005/2006 Fuhrer also started in the European Cup , but initially she only achieved a few places in the points, i.e. among the best 30. At her first Junior World Championship in 2006 in the Canadian province of Québec , Fuhrer's best result was 21st place in the giant slalom. Three weeks later she reached third place in the Super-G at the Swiss Championships in 2006 . In the same year she became Swiss junior champion in giant slalom. Fuhrer had to end the 2006/2007 season after an injury in mid-February, which is why she missed the 2007 Junior World Championships. In 2008 she achieved 17th place in the Super-G at the Junior World Championship in Formigal .

In November 2008, Fuhrer achieved her first top 10 placement in the European Cup. In the following month she made her World Cup debut in the Super-G in St. Moritz , but over the next two years she did not score any points in her few World Cup starts. After she had achieved her better results in the Super-G by then, the giant slalom became Fuhrer's strongest discipline from the 2009/2010 season. In the European Cup in 2009/2010 she achieved six top 10 placements in giant slalom and thus fifth place in the discipline ranking. In the following season she was second in the giant slalom in Limone Piemonte - at the same time as the German Veronique Hronek - for the first and only time on the podium. With another five top 10 results in giant slalom, this time she achieved seventh place in the discipline ranking. On February 6, 2011, Fuhrer won her tenth World Cup race, the giant slalom on the Großer Arber in Zwiesel , with 26th place and her first World Cup points. This was also her last World Cup start. After she had been handicapped by inflammation in her knee in recent years, she had to take a complete break in winter 2011/2012 due to knee pain. She then announced her resignation in July 2012.
