Katrin Leumann (born February 8, 1982 in Basel ) is a former Swiss mountain biker and cyclo-cross rider .

biography

Katrin Leumann started biking at the age of 15, when she received a mountain bike for confirmation. She drove for several years in the fun category, also because the U-23 category for women was only introduced in 2006 when she was already too old. As her first top placement, she achieved tenth place in the 2003 World Cup race in St. Wendel . In 2004 she became the Swiss champion in cross-country for the first time. A success that she was able to repeat in 2008 and 2009. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , she was flown in the day before the cross-country race to replace the injured Petra Henzi . Leumann finally came in 19th.

She achieved her greatest success so far in 2010 when she won the gold medal in cross-country and with the relay at the European Mountain Bike Championships in Haifa . At the 2010 Mountain Bike World Championships in Mont Sainte-Anne , she also won gold with the Swiss relay.

Leumann has been driving for the Ghost Factory Racing Team since 2011 , having previously competed in the World Cup as a solo driver for several years .

In addition to mountain biking, Leumann also drives cross-country races. In 2007 she became Swiss champion and from 2008 to 2012 she was second.

In the run-up to the mountain bike world championships in Lenzerheide, Leumann announced that she was retiring from professional sport due to her pregnancy.

Katrin Leumann is a trained kindergarten teacher and lower school teacher. She lives in Riehen .
