Kaule is a mountain town and a Village Development Committee (VDC) in the Nepalese Midhills , which is about 25 kilometers northwest of the Nepalese capital Kathmandu on the edge of the Kathmandu Valley . Shivapuri-Nagarjun National Park is nearby, east of the village .

Kaule is located on a mountain pass in the Nepalese Midhills, at an altitude of 1,860 meters, in the Nuwakot district in the central Nepalese administrative zone of Bagmati .

Residents

According to a population census in 2001, the 2001 Nepal Census , at that time 2976 people lived in 605 individual households in Kaule. The residents are mainly Tamang . Occasionally Sherpa and Newar also live in the village . In addition to mostly Buddhists , there are also some Hindus and Christians in the village . The place has a small Christian church.

At the 2011 census, Kaule had 2,993 inhabitants (1,346 men) in 739 households.

economy

Agriculture is the main activity in and around Kaule . There are corn, rice, wheat and vegetables, such as. B. radish, tomatoes, cabbage, potatoes and chilli are grown. The Japanese non-profit organization Japan International Cooperation Agency (JAICA) introduced strawberry cultivation in Kaule a few years ago. Therefore, there are large monoculture areas with strawberry cultivation and the area is known for their cultivation.

particularities

In the past there were already some development aid projects in Kaule, which were supposed to enable the local families to switch from the usual subsistence economy to agro-forestry . Of the interested families in the village, however, only one family has established itself in agroforestry. According to the German development aid association Kaule eV, they earn a higher income than the other families in the village. Kaule eV has been running an agroforestry project since 2007 , in which fifteen local farmers take part.
