Kazimierz Alchimowicz (born December 20, 1840 in Dziembrów near Grodno , † December 31, 1916 in Warsaw ) was a Polish painter who is considered to be one of the last romantics in Polish painting. Among other things, he illustrated the poem Pan Tadeusz by Adam Mickiewicz with a series of twelve paintings (1898) and graphics (1903) . He was the older brother of the Polish painter Hiacynt Alchimowicz .

Life

Kazimierz Alchimowicz finished his education in Vilnius and was then a land manager in the Kiev area for a few years .

In 1863 Alchimowicz took part in the January uprising as a soldier and fought in Lithuania , for which he was deported to Verkhoturye behind the Urals . There he began to create drawings with natural motifs and pictures with a religious theme, from whose sale he financed his living. In 1869 he returned to Warsaw and began art training with Wojciech Gerson . He then studied from 1873 to 1875 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Professor Alexander Wagner .

From 1876 to 1877 he worked in Paris , took part in the Salon de Paris . In 1877 he lived in Avon , where he also painted on faience and porcelain .

From 1877 he worked in Warsaw , where he worked from 1890 in the painting and sculpture school of Bronisława Poświkowa as a drawing teacher. He won several international awards for his work.
