No Fire in Winter is a Swiss film from 2004 . Directed by Greg Zglinski , the screenplay was written by Zglinski together with Pierre-Pascal Rossi .

action

In the winter of the rural Swiss Jura , Jean and Laure try to come to terms with the death of their five-year-old daughter, who had died in the flames six months earlier. They try to do this with different methods. While Laures depression worsens and she has herself taken to a psychiatric hospital, Jean's memory plagues him, which silences his feelings of guilt .

Because of the lack of management of the farm, the couple gets more and more into financial difficulties. Finally, Jean leaves the farm and goes into town, where he works in a metal factory and tries to forget his memories of the accident.

In the factory, he meets the Kosovar Albanians Kastriot and his sister Labinota, who all lost their relatives in the civil war. At the same time, Laure becomes estranged from Jean, instead Jean and Labinota approach. Through the hard blows of fate , the intercultural exchange and the bravery of the young woman, Jean learns to deal with his fears and grief, while his isolated wife gradually seeks contact with him again.

Reviews

"The strict, heart-touching film tells its brittle story in a hypothermic manner and yet also makes it possible to experience the deep suffering as the hope of its protagonists."
