No Comrades is a German documentary film by the author and journalist Beate Lehr-Metzger from 2011 .

Background and plot

After the start of the German-Soviet War by the German Wehrmacht on June 22, 1941, several million people were taken prisoner in the Soviet Union in the months that followed . Around two million died by the spring of 1942 - many of them of starvation, illness or targeted killings. Lehr-Metzger documents this story using the example of two prisoners of war. The starting point for the film were Wehrmacht index cards with which every prisoner of war was recorded. These documents were discovered and analyzed by the historians Rolf Keller and Reinhard Otto in a Moscow military archive . The fate of the Soviet soldiers Nikolai Kurilow and Boris Schaporow , who were imprisoned on Langeoog during this time, is exemplified . Kurilov dies in January 1942; Shaporov survived the war .
