The Keiper GmbH & Co. KG was a German automotive supplier based in Kaiserslautern . Keiper developed and produced seat components and multifunctional seat structures made of metal for international automobile manufacturers and their system suppliers. In 2008, the company employed around 6,150 people worldwide at 19 locations in North and South America, Europe and Asia. In the 2008 financial year, Keiper achieved worldwide sales of EUR 808.6 million. Keiper became a subsidiary of Johnson Controls in 2010 . In June 2015 it became known that Johnson Controls wanted to sell the automotive division and with it Keiper GmbH & Co. KG again. The divisions went into the newly founded company Adient .

Company history

Fritz Keiper founded the company in 1920 in Remscheid , Berg, under the name Fritz Keiper Verdeck- und Beschlagfabrik . The trained blacksmith made a name for himself in the first decades with solutions for roof tops for vehicle bodies. In 1937 he achieved the breakthrough with his "patented Keiper sleeper seat fitting": With this retrofit solution, the backrest of a vehicle seat could be individually adjusted for the first time.

In 1983 the company merged with the Baden-Württemberg vehicle seat manufacturer Recaro and operated under the name Keiper Recaro GmbH & Co. until 1997. In 1997, four legally and economically independent divisional companies were created. The just-in-time division Keiper Car Seating was sold in 1998. The three remaining companies have since been active in different business fields: Keiper with seat components, seat structures and development services for automobile manufacturers and their suppliers (for cars and for commercial vehicles); Recaro with vehicle seats ( Recaro Automotive Seating ) for the original equipment and aftermarket (including child seats; brands KEIPER and STORCHENMÜHLE ), as well as Recaro Aircraft Seating with seats for aircraft.

All three companies are united under the umbrella of PUTSCH GmbH & Co. KG , based in Kaiserslautern, which holds the shares in the three divisions under the name Keiper Recaro Group .

At the end of 2010, the group of companies was sold to the US automotive supplier Johnson Controls . The child seats and RECARO Aircraft Seating were not affected.

At the beginning of 2015, the South American business with three locations in Brazil and around 1,000 employees was sold to Prevent DEV . Putsch Holding has thus parted with all Keiper holdings worldwide.

Products

In addition, 'Keiper Engineering' offers development services for complete seating systems in the front and rear areas. Keiper entered the commercial vehicle business in 2007.
