Keischel near Weimar
The Keischel near Weimar is a nature reserve (NSG) near Ahnatal- Weimar in the Hessian district of Kassel .
location and size
The area in the West Hessian Depression with the Natureg identification 1633033 has a size of 19.74 ha (approx. 1.5 × 0.14 km) and is at an altitude of 260 to 327 m above sea level. NN north of the parallel K30 county road.
Brief description and protection purpose
The Keischel near Weimar was designated as a nature reserve in 1992. The base rock for the soil formation are shell limestone and red sandstone (red). Primarily worthy of protection are the partially bush-covered limestone grasslands (approx. 8 ha), which are kept open through grazing with sheep and clearing. Furthermore, in the nature reserve there are orchards , pastures (horses and cattle), fields, fallow land and a spruce reforestation . The Keischel is surrounded by a landscape protection area that covers an area of 22.7 hectares.
Flora and fauna
The Keischel is home to a large number of animals and plants typical of (semi) dry grassland. The protected area, opened up by dirt roads, is therefore well suited for nature observation. The protected species encountered here (according to the Federal Species Protection Ordinance or fauna-flora-habitat classification) include z. B .:

- Common cat paw ( Antennaria dioica )
- Fringed Gentian ( Gentianella ciliata )
- German gentian ( Gentianella germanica )
- Mosquito Haendelwurz ( Gymnadenia conopsea )
- Male orchid ( Orchis mascula )
- Reptiles:
- Sand lizard ( Lacerta agilis )
- Butterfly:
- Great mother-of-pearl butterfly ( Mesoacidalia aglaja )
- Lean-grass mother-of-pearl butterfly ( Boloria dia )
Problems
The Keischel nature reserve near Weimar and the surrounding nature reserve are endangered due to the irrationality of individual citizens. So were u. a. repeatedly observed illegal rubble deposits and violations of the fertilizer ordinance .
