Kellie Dawn Pickler (born June 28, 1986 in Albemarle , North Carolina ) is an American pop and country singer.

Life

Pickler's parents are Cynthia Morton and Clyde "Bo" Pickler Jr. The mother was 18 years old when Kellie was born; when she was two years old, her mother waived custody and gave it to her father. Pickler grew up in Palestine, a small village near her birthplace, Albemarle. She lived there with her grandparents. After her grandmother's death, she and her younger brother Eric stayed with their grandfather in North Carolina. Kellie attended North Stanly High School in New London , where she graduated in 2004. During her school days she was a cheerleader and dancer .

At the age of 19, Pickler applied in Greensboro for the fifth season of American Idol , which ended up in sixth place. She was the favorite of the main judge Simon Cowell , who attested her at one performance even over the previous year's winner Carrie Underwood . Pickler received a recording contract with BNA and published three studio albums there by 2012, all of which reached the top 10 of the US pop charts and were also very high in the country hit list.

Pickler's first hit in the US pop and country charts was with Red High Heels in 2006. Other hits were I Wonder , Things That Never Cross a Man's Mind (2007), Don't You Know You're Beautiful (2008) and Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You (2010). Her greatest success was Best Days of Your Life , which was placed in the top 10 in 2009 and was awarded platinum. After the album 100 Proof could no longer build on its previous successes despite high chart positions, Pickler switched from BNA to Black River Entertainment, where The Woman I Am was released in 2013 . This album also did well at first, but the singles that were released were hardly successful. Pickler haven't had any hits since 2013. She left Black River in 2016.

In addition to her singing career, Pickler was often seen on television. She won in May 2013 along with Derek Hough , the 16th season of the dance show Dancing with the Stars . Over the course of the season, the couple received the highest number of points four times. From November 2015 to October 2017, three seasons of the reality show I Love Kellie Pickler followed on the country music channel CMT . In September 2017, the talk show Pickler & Ben celebrated its premiere on the HSN teleshopping channel . Pickler can be seen here as a presenter alongside Ben Aaron.

Pickler has been married to country singer Kyle Jacobs since January 1, 2011. In 2016 she was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame.

Pickler caused a worldwide sensation in November 2007 when she did not know the answer to the question “Budapest is the capital of which European state?” On the US TV show “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?”. She asked: “It may be a stupid question, but I thought Europe was a state?” “Don't they speak French there ?”. But she wasn't sure whether France was really a state and whether Budapest might be its capital. So she decided to use the write-off joker. She had never heard of Budapest or Hungary before, but at least she heard from Turkey : “Hungary? I've heard of Turkey! ".
