The Home Shopping Network (HSN) is an American teleshopping channel that was founded in 1981 in Saint Petersburg ( Florida ). The network is listed on NASDAQ under the symbol HSNI.

history

With the delivery of 112 can openers in 1977, the story of home shopping began at a radio station in Clearwater . Which arose from these beginnings in 1982 Home Shopping Club in the cable network of Tampa Bay . In 1985, the Home Shopping Club could already be received around the clock throughout the USA . This led to the renaming in Home Shopping Network .

In 1986 the Home Shopping Network Inc. was admitted to trading on the American Stock Exchange . That year, HSN took over nine television stations in ( Newark , Smithtown , Boston , Baltimore , Philadelphia , Cleveland , Houston , San Francisco and Los Angeles ). That year Silver King Broadcasting was founded.

Liberty Media took over his shares in HSN from founder Roy M. Speer in December 1992. By April 1993, 71% of the shares had come into the possession of Liberty Media. Together with Tele-Communications Inc. , Home Shopping Network founds Home Shopping International in 1993 for international expansion. In addition, Silver King Broadcasting was given to the shareholders as a spin-off .

The website www.HSN.com was activated in 1995 and expanded into an online shopping portal in 1999. Barry Diller became Chairman of the Board of Home Shopping Network Inc. in 1995 .

In 1995 the takeover of Ingenious Designs , a company specializing in direct marketing and infomercials . The Hanover Direct brand catalog and website were acquired in 2001.

Silver King Broadcasting took over the Home Shopping Network for $ 1.2 billion in 1996. In 2000, the official name was changed to HSN and a campaign under the slogan: "Only on HSN". connected.

On August 1, 2010, HSN launched its offshoot HSN2.

With the takeover of Cornerstone Brands in 2005, HSN obtained the rights to:

  • The Territory Ahead and
  • TravelSmith

In 2006 HSN introduced the option of buying goods directly from the remote control . With DISH Network , a satellite provider was found that could provide this service to all American households.

In May 2008, HSNi was separated from the parent company InterActiveCorp and listed on NASDAQ .

On July 6, 2017, it was announced that QVC had acquired HSN for $ 2.1 billion. Since then, both companies have operated as the Qurate Retail Group .
