Kendji Girac  (actually  Kendji Jason Maillié ; born  July 3, 1996 in Périgueux , Dordogne ) is a French singer . He won the third season of The Voice: la plus belle voix , the French version of the talent show The Voice . There he was a member of the team of the singer Mika . He has released three studio albums ( Kendji , Ensemble and Amigo ,) as well as some hit singles. He sings pop songs with influences from Latin American music , dance and contemporary flamenco .

biography

Beginnings

Girac is the youngest in a Kalé family from Catalonia . He grew up in Saint-Astire . He learned singing and playing the guitar from his grandfather. He learned the Catalan language before the French. He finished school at the age of 16 and worked in his family's tree care company . He gained fame early on through his videos on the Internet. His Spanish guitar-inspired version of Bella , a song by the French singer and rapper Maître Gims , was filmed by a friend and quickly spread across the Internet. Another popular song he covered is by Gérard Lenorman and is called Si j'étais president .

The Voice: la plus belle voix

In the 3rd season of the French edition of the talent show The Voice (January to May 2014) he appeared with the title Bella by Maître Gims  and coach Mika was the only one of 3 coaches to turn around. In the battle round of the casting show, Mika had him compete against Youness. Both sang the title Tous les mêmes by  Stromae . In L'épreuve ultime , he sang Hotel California  from the band Eagles . During the live rounds of the television show, he sang songs like Ma philosophie by  Amel Bent , Mad World by  Tears for Fears and Allumer le feu by  Johnny Hallyday . In the semifinals he sang Belle von Garou  and  Daniel Lavoie , which qualified him as a finalist for his team. Finally, he won the final with 51% of the vote against Maximilien Philippe (21%),  Amir Haddad (18%) and Wesley (10%) with songs like Amor de mis amores / Volare by Gipsy Kings and Temps à nouveau by  Jean-Louis Aubert .

Publications and chart successes

In January 2014, Kendji Girac initially released a self-titled EP with five tracks (including Color Gitano and Bella ) as a download, which made it to number 44 in the French charts. His debut album Kendji was released on September 8, 2014 on Mercury Records . It became a number one hit in France and Belgium , in Switzerland it came in at number 22. In France it was at number 1 for twelve weeks and a total of 94 weeks in the charts. Within four months to the end of 2014 it achieved diamond status there (500,000 units sold), and then double diamond status in the following year. He won gold with this in Switzerland. His second album Ensemble , which came out on October 30, 2015, reached number 1 in France, Belgium and Switzerland and also achieved diamond status. Several of his singles made it into the French charts. Among other things, Andalouse was successful , the second advance release from the debut album, which stayed there for 97 weeks with a top position in 3rd place.
