Kenneth Edward Untener

Kenneth Edward Untener (born August 3, 1937 on Belle Isle , Detroit , Michigan , † March 27, 2004 ) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Saginaw .

Life

Untener attended Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit and St. John's Provincial Seminary in Plymouth , Michigan. On June 1, 1963, he received his ordination by Cardinal John Francis Dearden and was active in the Archdiocese of Detroit . Later he studied theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome , where he received his doctorate in 1971 . From 1977 to 1980 he held the office of Rector of St. John's Provincial Seminary .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Saginaw on October 4, 1980 . John Francis Cardinal Dearden donated him then on November 24th of the same year the episcopal ordination ; Co-consecrators were his predecessor Francis Frederick Reh and Auxiliary Bishop Thomas John Gumbleton from Detroit.
