Kenneth Vanbilsen (born June 1, 1990 in Herk-de-Stad ) is a Belgian cyclist .

Athletic career

Kenneth Vanbilsen comes from a cycling family. His grandfather as well as three uncles and two cousins ​​were or are racing cyclists, one of his uncles is Eric Vanderaerden , Belgian road champion from 1984, winner of Paris – Roubaix in 1987 and the Tour of Flanders in 1985. In 2008, Kenneth Vanbilsen won the Trofée der Vlaamse Ardennen for Juniors, 2011 two stages of the Ronde van Vlaams-Brabant . In the following year he won the U23 edition of the Tour of Flanders and finished eighth in the U23 road race at the road world championships in Limburg, the Netherlands . In 2014 he won the Grand Prix d'Ouverture La Marseillaise .

In 2015 Vanbilsen was nominated for the Tour de France by his team Cofidis . On the sixth stage over 191.5 kilometers from Abbeville to Le Havre , he drew attention to himself when he drove out of the field after six kilometers in a breakaway group with Perrig Quéméneur and Daniel Teklehaimanot ; the group had a lead of over twelve minutes at times. Three kilometers from the finish, however, after the other two riders had already fallen behind, he was swallowed by the peloton . Ultimately, he finished 142nd at the end of the stage.
