The 6th stage of the Tour de France 2015 took place on July 9, 2015 and led from Abbeville over 191.5 kilometers to Le Havre . There were three mountain ratings of the fourth category after 72 kilometers (Côte de Dieppe), 77.5 kilometers (Côte de Pourville-sur-Mer) and 162 kilometers (Côte du Tilleul) and an intermediate sprint after 145.5 kilometers in Saint-Léonard . The sixth stage counted as a flat stage. There were 188 drivers at the start.

Race course

An escape group consisting of Perrig Quéméneur , Kenneth Vanbilsen and Daniel Teklehaimanot was able to pull away quickly and gain a lead of over twelve minutes on the peloton. Only when the Lotto Soudal team around André Greipel increased the pace in the field, the gap narrowed again and leveled off at around five minutes. Perrig Quéméneur won the intermediate sprint, with John Degenkolb first in the main field . The Eritreans Daniel Teklehaimanot gained at this stage by winning all three climbs the polka-dot jersey . This made him the first African in cycling history to wear this jersey for the mountain classification in the Tour de France , a "milestone for African cycling". In the meantime, the lead shrank due to the follow-up work in the main field, 20 kilometers from the finish it was about a minute that the outliers were in front of the field. Shortly before the groups merged, Vanbilsen tried it alone, but was caught two kilometers from the finish.

Tony Martin wore the yellow jersey for this stage. He fell so badly about 1000 meters from the finish on the final climb in Le Havre that he broke his collarbone and had to end the Tour de France prematurely. Several other riders, including Vincenzo Nibali , also fell, but were able to continue the tour.

Zdeněk Štybar won the day with an attack on the final ascent in front of the sprinters, Peter Sagan placed second and shortened the gap to André Greipel , who rode in the green jersey, in the points classification.
