The 5th stage of the Tour de France 2015 took place on July 8, 2015 and led from Arras over 189.5 kilometers to Amiens . There was an intermediate sprint after 89.5 kilometers in Rancourt . There were no mountain ratings. The fifth stage counted as a flat stage. There were 191 drivers at the start.
Race course
Initially, Nicolas Edet (Cofidis) and Pierre-Luc Périchon (Bretagne-Séché Environnement) left the field. While Edet gave up the breakaway attempt after a short time, Périchon drove on alone. Meanwhile, a fall occurred in the main field, which forced Cofidis rider Nacer Bouhanni to end the tour. Périchon was able to drive a maximum of four minutes on the peloton, but was released again shortly after the intermediate sprint. He won this ahead of André Greipel , John Degenkolb and Mark Cavendish .
As a result, the Tinkoff Saxo team increased the pace in the main field in order to tear it apart on the winds and to shake off some of Alberto Contador's competitors . This also succeeded, several drivers fell behind, but almost all of the favorites were able to stay in the front field. Before the finish line, the sprinter trains formed in preparation for the day's victory. André Greipel won ahead of Peter Sagan and Mark Cavendish. After the leading group, several small groups of suspended drivers crossed the finish line, the last and largest group arrived 14:15 minutes behind.
