The 15th stage of the Tour de France 2015 took place on July 19, 2015. It led from Mende over 183 kilometers to Valence . There were a total of four mountain ratings, two of which were in the fourth category, one in the third category and one in the second category. There was also an intermediate sprint after 108 kilometers in Aubenas . The 15th stage counted as a flat stage. 172 riders started.

Race course

The first escape group of the day consisted of 27 drivers. It disintegrated after the first mountain classification, so that nine outliers remained. They were Thibaut Pinot , Peter Sagan , Michael Rogers , Lars Bak , Simon Geschke , Adam Yates , Michał Kwiatkowski , Matteo Trentin and Ryder Hesjedal . Early on, fell Mark Cavendish and Jean-Christophe Péraud with some other riders from the peloton back and constantly lost time. The race that followed was not very spectacular. The outliers were around two minutes ahead, and the Katusha team was behind Alexander Kristoff's lead in the field . Peter Sagan was the first to reach the intermediate sprint and thus extended his lead in the points classification. In the field, John Degenkolb and André Greipel were ahead.

In the mountain classification of the second category ( Col de l'Escrinet ), the peloton was about 1:30 minutes behind. Matteo Trentin now attacked in the top group. He drove first alone and then waited for Ryder Hesjedal, who had taken up the Italian's pursuit. The two of them continued their escape in twos, the other runaways let themselves be caught by the field. A little later, the attempt to escape from Trentin and Hesjedal was over and they fell back into the field. Before the finish, Zdeněk Štybar tried to win the stage by attacking, but was not left out by the sprinter teams. Finally André Greipel won with a long sprint to the finish ahead of John Degenkolb, Alexander Kristoff and Peter Sagan.
