The 10th stage of the Tour de France 2015 took place on July 14, 2015, one day after the first day of rest. It led from Tarbes over 167 kilometers to the Col de la Pierre Saint-Martin . There were three mountain ratings in the fourth category after 66 kilometers (Côte de Bougarber), after 90 kilometers (Côte de Vielleségure) and after 134 kilometers (Côte de Montory). The stage arrival was a mountain finish of the Hors Catégorie . There was also an intermediate sprint after 124 kilometers in Trois-Villes . The tenth stage counted as a medium-difficult stage. There were 183 drivers at the start.
First Pierrick Fédrigo and later Kenneth Vanbilsen drove out of the field and drove individually, later together at the front. They were able to extend their lead to almost 15 minutes. Vanbilsen won the first two mountain classifications in the fourth category, and in the second round about 60 kilometers from the finish line both were about twelve minutes ahead. As the teams FDJ and Movistar began to work harder to follow up, the field's deficit was quickly reduced, and the intermediate sprint in Trois-Villes was only eight minutes away.
Due to the narrow gap of three points between Peter Sagan and André Greipel in the point evaluation, the intermediate sprint of the main field was particularly competitive. After the outliers, Greipel crossed the line in third place, Sagan only in seventh place. Greipel took over Sagan's green jersey with a three point lead. Vanbilsen also secured the third mountain classification of the day.
At the beginning of the final climb in Hors Catégorie , the two leaders had a lead of 3:17 minutes on the field. At first Vanbilsen fell back from the leading group, Fédrigo was alone in front. A little later he was overtaken by Robert Gesink , who had attacked from the decimated field. Meanwhile, the French Thibaut Pinot and Romain Bardet as well as Rigoberto Urán , Joaquim Rodríguez and last year's winner Vincenzo Nibali fell back. In the front, Rafael Valls caught up with Gesink, both were leading with about half a minute. Two attacks by Alejandro Valverde were unsuccessful. After Valverde and Alberto Contador also had to tear down, only Chris Froome , Richie Porte and Nairo Quintana were in the front group. Neither Quintana nor Gesink could follow an attack by Froomes. Froome won the stage ahead of Porte and Quintana, who were both about a minute behind.
In the overall standings, Froome led by almost three minutes ahead of Tejay van Garderen and Nairo Quintana , who took over the lead in the junior competition from Peter Sagan. After reaching the mountain, Froome also took first place in the mountain classification.
