Jack Bauer (born April 7, 1985 in Takaka ) is a New Zealand cyclist .
Career
Bauer initially devoted himself to mountain biking and competed for New Zealand as a U23 rider in the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in 2006. To train for this championship, he bought a racing bike for the first time so that he could ride longer distances. During the period up to the age of 21, Bauer completed his studies and tried to be successful as a rock musician.
To improve his skills on the road , Bauer spent a long time in Belgium in 2009 and won a few local races. Back in New Zealand, Bauer won his first international competition in 2009 with a stage of the Tour of Southland and took second place in the overall standings.
He then received a contract with the British Continental Team Endura Racing , for which he drove in 2010 and 2011. In his first year with Endura Racing, he became the New Zealand road racing champion and won a stage in the Tour of Wellington . In 2011 he won a stage of the Tour of Utah .
In 2012, Bauer moved to the US UCI ProTeam Garmin Sharp , for which he was his first Grand Tour with the Giro d'Italia 2012 , which he finished 114th overall. After the disqualification of Michael Rogers, he won the Japan Cup , a race hors categorie . In 2014 Jack Bauer won the silver medal in the road race at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow . 139 drivers had started in this race, of which only twelve made it to the finish line due to heavy rain. Bauer finished second behind Geraint Thomas, one minute and 21 seconds behind. He won a stage of the Tour of Britain in 2016 .
In 2017, Bauer drove for Quick-Step Floors and was an important helper in the 2017 Tour de France in the sprint train of four-time stage winner Marcel Kittel . Then moved to the Mitchelton-Scott team .
