Kepler-37 is a star about 210 light-years away from Earth . The star is located in the constellation Lyra and is slightly smaller than the sun .

With the Kepler space telescope , three planets orbiting it were discovered. There are also 2 planet candidates in the system.

Kepler-37b is only slightly larger than the moon , but smaller than the planet Mercury . This makes it about a third the diameter of the earth . It orbits its central star at a very short distance (approx. 0.1 AU). Currently (2013) it is the smallest known exoplanet .

There are at least two other exoplanets in the planetary system around Kepler-37 . Kepler-37c orbit around the central star in a further outward orbit and is slightly smaller than Venus .

Even further out is Kepler-37d, which is twice the size of Earth. Its distance to the central star is probably too small to be in the habitable zone .
